Covering Maesteg
Our survey diary covers Maesteg, including CF34. We also work in nearby Bridgend (8 miles), Tonypandy (9 miles), Porthcawl (9 miles), Rhondda (10 miles).
Just over the West Glamorgan border, Briton Ferry is about 7 miles away. In Wales, terraced houses with rear offshoots are common in the towns, while detached houses and bungalows dominate in rural areas.
What we take care of
- Removal and disposal of the old conservatory
- Opening widened into the house if wanted
- Glazing and doors to suit the new room
- Trial holes to check the existing foundations
Will the council need to approve it?
In Wales a single-storey rear extension can usually project up to 4 m beyond the rear wall without a planning application, if it is no more than 4 m high, keeps eaves to 3 m and overall height to 4 m within 2 m of a boundary, and covers no more than half the land around the original house. Wales has no larger home extension prior approval scheme.
In a conservation area, national park, National Landscape or World Heritage Site the permitted development limits are tighter (no side or two-storey extensions without an application). Listed homes need listed building consent, and if permitted development rights have been removed, any extension needs an application.
Building over or within 3 m of a public sewer needs the water company's consent before the foundations go in.
The Party Wall etc. Act 1996 applies in Wales as in England: notice must be served before work to a shared wall, building on the boundary, or excavating close to a neighbour's foundations.
Applications are decided by the local planning authority (your county or county borough council, or the national park authority).

Conservatory replacement questions answered
How long does a conservatory replacement take to build in Maesteg?
On site, typically 8 to 14 weeks once approvals are in place. Before that, allow 4–12 weeks design and approvals.
Do you cover all of Maesteg?
Yes. We cover Maesteg and the surrounding parts of Mid Glamorgan. Site visits are free and there is no obligation.
Will my neighbours in Maesteg be involved?
If a planning application is needed, the council notifies neighbours. If the work is on or near a shared boundary, party wall notices may also be needed.
Is it worth replacing a conservatory with an extension?
If the conservatory is unusable for much of the year, usually yes. A solid extension gives a heated room that counts as proper living space. Our guide range is about £1,720 to £3,260 per m² including VAT, including removal.
Can I keep the existing base?
Sometimes, but conservatory bases are often too shallow for solid walls. Trial holes tell us before we confirm the price.
