Extensions in and around Wimbledon
Our survey diary covers Wimbledon, including CR4, SM4, SW17, SW18, SW19, SW20. Nearby, we also take on projects in Morden (2 miles), Earlsfield (2 miles), Tooting (2 miles), Mitcham (2 miles).
Ewell, in Surrey, is roughly 5 miles from Wimbledon and also on our list. In London, space is at a premium and gardens are often short, so side returns, wraparounds and carefully planned rear extensions tend to make the most of every metre.
Is a home office extension right for your house?
- People who work from home most of the week
- Homes where a loft or garden room is not practical
- Households that need a second quiet room
North-facing glass and rooflights give steadier light for screen work. Where the office faces south, we use deeper reveals or external shading to keep glare and heat down.
Do I need planning permission in Wimbledon?
In England a single-storey rear extension can usually go up to 3 m beyond the original rear wall of a semi-detached or terraced house, or 4 m on a detached house, without a planning application, provided it is no more than 4 m high, keeps eaves to 3 m within 2 m of a boundary and, with other buildings, covers no more than half the land around the original house. The larger home extension prior approval scheme raises those depths to 6 m and 8 m, with neighbours notified and a 42-day decision.
Homes in conservation areas, national parks, National Landscapes (formerly AONBs), the Broads and World Heritage Sites have tighter rules, so we always check the property's status and planning history before design starts.
If the work involves a shared wall, building on the boundary, or digging foundations within 3 m (sometimes 6 m) of a neighbour's building, the Party Wall etc. Act 1996 applies and notice must be served before work starts: two months for work to a party wall, one month for new walls on the boundary and for excavations.
Applications are decided by the local planning authority (your district, borough or unitary council).

Questions people ask about home office extensions

Who do I contract with for a home office extension in Wimbledon?
Your contract is with S&K Property Investments and Improvement Ltd, which designs and manages the project and the build teams who carry it out.
How much does a home office extension cost?
Our guide range is about £2,400 to £4,420 per m² including VAT. An 11 m² standard-spec office is typically £30,500 to £39,000 in Wimbledon.
Is an attached office better than a garden office?
An attached office shares the house heating and broadband, adds floor area to the home, and needs no garden path in the rain. A garden building can be cheaper and quicker but is a separate structure.
